How do we build sustainable and resilience communities?
Equity: The appropriate distribution of benefits and burdens within and across generations is the basis for resilience in community development. In a post-9/11-Hurricane Harvey-Great Recession planning environment the lessons learned were the most vulnerable members of the community must be given the adequate resources to prepare and respond to catastrophic events in order to be resilient (capacity to bounce back or bounce forward). This is done during the mitigation and preparedness phases of emergency or disaster management. A community must be made secure, safe, economically feasible, and environmentally sound through equitable distribution of resources BEFOREHAND to achieve resilience in community redevelopment afterward.
